The 23rd and current PM, Trudeau has been in power for more than eight years.
After being elected as the MP for Papineau in 2008, Trudeau quickly rose up the Liberal party ranks. He entered the leadership race in 2012, following Michael Ignatieff’s resignation. He won the Liberal leadership in 2013 and ultimately led the Liberals to a majority government in 2015, followed by minority governments in both the 2019 and 2021 elections.
His government has focused on gender-balanced Cabinet appointments, environmental commitments and cannabis legalization. His administration has also faced several controversies and scandals, such as the Aga Khan affair, the SNC-Lavalin affair, and the WE Charity scandal, which led to investigations by the ethics commissioner.
